Fireworks

Today I faced a truly difficult parenting decision. I was sitting alone in the room with Eleanor at Nana's house. She had just fallen asleep. Falling asleep has not been going well lately, taking 2 and even 3 hours per night (yikes). But then I heard the fireworks start outside. What to do? Ignore it? Wake up this impossible-to-get-to-sleep 2 year old for something she may like or may be terrified of?
I made a split second call and scooped her up and went running down the stairs out to the driveway. She was completely bewildered at first. Then Richard and Nana met us outside and we all watched together and I have to say, it was magical. As I carried her back upstairs half asleep, she was saying "fireworks, so many lights, so many colors."
